INTRODUCTION


The Institute of Gender Studies has been established at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur from the academic year 2013 to promote gender studies as learning discipline in the remote area of upper Sindh. The main objectives of this Institute are to train the students and workers of this region in gender studies and to promote co-operation in inter-disciplinary relationship with others teaching/ research departments and NGO establishment, to arrange seminars and workshops for the awareness of gender studies.The Institute offers Master’s program. In addition, post-graduate diploma and certificate courses in the relevant discipline are also offered in accordance with the standard and requirement of this university. Understanding International Relations requires descriptive and theoretical knowledge. The post-Cold War New World Order, International terrorism, growing number and increasing role of non-state actors, climate changes and environmental challenges have come on the agenda of International Relations. This has made International Relations an unavoidable and an inevitable discipline to study in depth.



Gender Equity Program


The Gender Equity Program at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur started on 17th Dec, 2012. The funding under this program was provided by USAID in collaboration with Aurat Foundation and The Asia Foundation. The objectives of the program included the establishment of Computer lab linked with web ePortal, small library and a two-month-diploma course on Gender issues. The over all purpose of the grant is to strengthen the Institute of Gender Studies at SALU The Vice Chancellor’s keen interest in the project made it possible for the project team to start work smoothly at the earliest.

Objectives of Gender Equity Program at SALU


1. Establishment of fully equipped Computer Lab (Internet, LAN installation etc.) at university.
2. Providing Computer/internet access to girls studying at the university and from outside.
3. Sensitization about women issues and gender studies through 2 month short introductory course on gender studies.
4. Making Latest data and study reports on women issues available for further research.
5. Establishment of Database on women issues in the region (Collecting reports on old Research).
6. Providing new opportunities to potential researchers for further short research studies.
7. Student Exchange visit with Sindh University, Jamshoro.
8. Development of Web-ePortal at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur.
